The Slide Awards recognise the hottest products for the 2016/17 winter season and acknowledge innovation in snowsports across three categories: Hardware, Software and Accessories. The awards are voted for by SIGB retail members, press and industry opinion leaders.
Slide 2016, which is showcasing next winter’s snowsports products for the first time, is organised by the Snowsport Industries of Great Britain (SIGB) and plays a key role in the retailer’s buying process as well as giving the snowsports trade first views of products from more than 220 brands.
Slide Awards 2016 – The Winners
Product: XT 130 Freetour ski boot
The Lange XT 130 Freetour ski boot was recognised as the stand out product in the Hardware category. The boot is lighter than an alpine boot, but despite having the same performance as a downhill boot, it has a range of ‘Freetour’ features including an ultra grip sole and pin binding inserts.
Scott Dobson from Lange said: “From Lange’s point of view this is a great accolade. We are happy that the judges have acknowledged the effort we have put in to develop ski boots over the last seven years. Lange is a premium boot brand and we feel that in the XT 130 Freetour we have a premium product that occupies the space between freeride and touring, a growing area of the market”.

Product: Quantum Jacket
In the Software category, the Head Quantum Jacket was recognised for its innovative breathable outerwear. The EXO Phase technology sees near seam free construction and an advanced warp knitting technique means that breathability can be tailored to different parts of the body. In the Quantum jacket, open structures are positioned under the arms and centre of the back.
Matt Humphreys from Head said: “As a relative newcomer to the apparel market, it’s great that our technical innovations and products are recognised by the market.”

Brand: Dragon Alliance
Product: Dragon X1 Goggle
The Dragon X1 goggle features ‘Transitions’ lenses, which automatically change tints in response to changing sunlight and weather conditions. This technological innovation meant Dragon Alliance took the win in the accessories category. The ‘game changing goggle’ also combines the patented ‘Frameless Lens Technology’, pushing the versatility of the goggles to the next level.
Craig Smith at Dragon Alliance said: “As a brand with very core roots, it is great to be recognised for the second time this season by the wider wintersports market. The feedback we get from existing and new customers at Slide drives our continued investment in technical innovation such as our partnership with Transitions.”
