An overwhelming response from exhibitors has led to Slide 15 having to expand to meet the demand. Organiser, Lesley Beck, commented, “Having to expand the floorplan is a great ’problem” for any show organiser to have and it’s exciting to see new and returning brands keen to exhibit at Slide. Snowboard brands K2 and Ride booked stands as soon as the show went on sale and the positive responses have just kept coming”.

When Columbia came on board in October, the decision was taken to increase the area available. Darren Wilcox, country manager for Columbia said, “This year’s timing was the deciding factor for coming back. It’s important we can give buyers time to make their selections whilst meeting our order deadlines for production”.

The number of exhibitors, 88 so far, and size of the show already surpasses the last two years of Slide and the organisers are confident of selling the expanded area. Exhibitors who have not yet committed are urged to contact the organisers without delay to avoid missing out.

10 Sept 2014

The earlier dates for Slide 2015 (27-29 January), prior to the international ispo trade show, have certainly not had a detrimental effect on exhibitor interest, with the bookings at the end of August at 90% of the total area booked for the last show. Organiser, Lesley Beck, commented, “It was almost into the New Year that we had this level of uptake for the last show, so it’s a tremendously positive start to Slide 2015. Furthermore, 5 brand new organisations have already booked for the 2015 show, indicating that the 2015 Slide tradeshow is highly likely to surpass the 2014 in terms of numbers of exhibitors, brands and area of show”.

The show organisers are confident that the venue has plenty of capacity to cope with additional exhibitors and expect to be able to accommodate additional brands who wish to sign up. The best prices, however, are only available until mid October so any would-be exhibitors are encouraged to book prior to the price rise of mid October.

Bookings open for Slide 2015

Slide 2015, the actionsports trade show, which runs from 27-29 January 2015 at the Telford International Centre, is now taking bookings. In a move aimed at rewarding existing customers, the SIGB have announced that brands that exhibited at the show last winter will be offered extra space (compared to their 2014 stand space) at a discounted rate. Prices of stands start at £71 per square metre.

For the first time in five years, Slide will take place prior to ispo, the international tradeshow in Munich. The shift of ispo to later dates (5-8 Feb) in 2015 left a very small window between ispo and half term for schools in the UK, a period that is traditionally very busy for retailers.

Sam Noble, President of SIGB commented, “Since our move to Telford International Centre in 2011, Slide has gone from strength to strength. Although of course we want to bring in new brands to the floor, we also want to reward exhibitors who have previously supported Slide. By giving discounted rates on extra stand space we hope that those exhibitors will have an even better platform to showcase their brands and it will also allow the show to grow further. We would encourage people to book early to get the best price. Discounted prices are available until 15th October, so it pays to make decisions early.”

Show organiser, Lesley Beck said, “Although the earlier Slide dates represent a break from the tradition of having Slide follow ispo, the SIGB really believe this earlier window will be beneficial to both exhibitors and retailers, and the timing is much better than running the show post ispo. Slide really is great value for exhibitors with a small stand, right in the heart of the show, at 3×2 m, costing less than £430, It really is an effective way for brands to put themselves in front of the key decision-makers in the UK wintersport market. Slide had around 500 visitors last year, 75% of whom were MD’s, owners or buyers.”

The Telford International Centre itself is an excellent venue for Slide; with a welcoming atmosphere providing a positive vibe to the show. The ease of getting to Telford by road or train, as well as the free parking for visitors, makes the venue a pleasure to visit. With enormous improvements to the infrastructure immediately surrounding the Centre continuing apace, the organisers are confident that Telford will only continue to improve as a location for the show.

Slide Visitor Registration Opens

With the Alps already disappearing under a blanket of snow and the Scottish resorts opening up for the season, brands have been preparing for winter by signing up to attend the Slide tradeshow in early February.

Uptake has been strong, with 70 different companies, representing more than 200 different brands committed to attending Slide 2014. Organiser, Lesley Beck is up-beat, “More than 85% of the show has already been snapped up and puts us ahead of where we were this time last year. It’s likely that the show will sell out, so I’d encourage brands that haven’t yet confirmed, to book their spot while they still have a good choice of location.”

Visitor registration is now live for Slide and retailers can sign up online to attend the show.

In addition to the three days of the show, there’s a party on the first evening, at a nearby hotel, with free shuttle buses transporting party-goers to and from the venue. Tickets can be booked on line.

Obviously, it’s essential to stay over in Telford to make the most of the opportunity to see so many brands under one roof and to enjoy the social event on Tuesday evening as well as the industry AGM and Open Forum meeting on the Wednesday 5th February. Reduced rate accommodation has been negotiated at several nearby hotels, with full details here.

Slide 2014 Dates Announced

The SIGB today announced that Slide will return to the Telford International Centre, with dates of 4-6 February in 2014.

The dates bring Slide closer in timing to the international show, ispo which finishes on 29th January in 2014, before the busy half term period and in advance of some critical order deadlines that UK suppliers are required to meet.

Show organiser, Lesley Beck said, “Although the earlier dates create challenges for some, they are welcomed by others as making the show more relevant as a buying show. In the tough current economic climate, it’s vital that the show is positioned to facilitate business between suppliers and retailers and the SIGB is confident that the dates selected for 2014 will encourage participation at Slide by more brands and retailers.”

The Telford International Centre itself continues to be an excellent venue for Slide; with a welcoming atmosphere providing a positive vibe to the show. The ease of getting to Telford by road or train, as well as the free parking for visitors, makes the venue a pleasure to visit. With enormous improvements to the infrastructure immediately surrounding the Centre continuing apace, the organisers are confident that Telford will only continue to improve as a location for the show.

Plans are being worked up for a social event following the first day of the show on 4th February, with details to follow in a few weeks.

Head Sensor by Runtastic.
Head and Runtastic have teamed up to build the first fully integrated Runtastic product in wintersports; the Head Sensor by Runtastic.

Head’s safety award-winning Sensor Helmet is an all-rounder for every terrain. Runtastic, one of the most popular fitness apps for smart phones, adds yet another feature to the helmet, making it one of the most innovative helmets for the coming season. The new App tracks your distance covered, route, speed, average speed, altitude difference as well as your heart rate and calorific consumption.

According to the latest research, skiers exercise at the same level as runners. To get the most out of the exercise, you can set up your own training plan by setting a heart rate according to your ambition and the Apps voice coach will tell you whether to speed up or slow down to stay in the defined range via the integrated speakers in the helmet’s ear pads.

Share your latest winter sports experience on social media real-time, with friends/followers interacting by recording personal messages or pressing a cheering button to motivate you – if your own choice of music isn’t already doing this.

With 3 months to go, Slide is amassing a great list of exhibiting companies; so far, 68 exhibitors have signed up, representing over 180 different brands

Recent sign-ups include Surf Sales, who are long-time exhibitors and Oakley.  The 2012 show saw the return of Oakley to Slide for the first time in several years and it obviously worked well for them as they have more than doubled the size of their stand for the 2013 show.

Slide 2013 Dates Announced

Following the success of Slide 2012, which took place at the Telford International Centre in February, the SIGB today announced that Slide will return to Telford, with dates of 18-20 February in 2013.

Although the dates of 18-20 February for Slide will clash with half term, these were the dates preferred by respondents to a post-show survey in February and are considered the best compromise for UK exhibitors and retailers, taking into account the dates of ISPO (3-6 Feb) and supplier order deadlines.

Slide 2013 will take place from Monday to Wednesday as a response to feedback from retailers, who indicated that a mid-week works best for most retailers, whose stores are busy on a Sunday.

Show organiser, Lesley Beck said, “Feedback from both retailers and exhibitors gave a clear steer in terms of dates and days of the week, so it’s good to be able to meet their needs as closely as possible.”

The Telford International Centre itself continues to be an excellent venue for Slide; with a welcoming atmosphere providing a positive vibe to the show. The ease of getting to Telford by road or train, as well as the free parking for visitors, made the venue a pleasure to visit. With enormous improvements to the infrasctructure immediately surrounding the Centre continuing apace, the organisers are confident that Telford will only continue to improve as a location for the show.

SIGB Ski Test
The SIGB Ski Test will return to Kuhtai in Austria from 25th February to 1st March 2013, following a successful test there this winter. The Ski Test is open to all retailers and media and offers a fantastic opportunity to test the following season’s skis and to meet friends, colleagues and competitors on the slopes.
In 2012, 119 individual testers from 23 retail and 9 media organisations recorded over 3000 test results on 18 different ski brands and on 761 pairs of skis.
The use of the Ski Test iPhone App increased, with many retailers preferring it to the score-card option using pen and paper.
